Ramp Slope

Ramp slope is the grade of a parking ramp, generally capped near 6.67% where cars park on the ramp, with steeper non-parking ramps permitted and breakover transitions controlled at the crests and valleys. In a parking facility:

Keep aisles where cars park near 6.67% (1:15). Express ramps run steeper, eased with transitions at each end. FLOOR-TO-FLOOR RISE RUN SLOPE = RISE / RUN
A ramp trades floor-to-floor rise against run. Gentle slopes keep parked-on aisles comfortable; steeper express ramps need eased transitions so bumpers do not scrape.
  • Slope, breakover, and design-vehicle clearance are designed together; each limit exists because a real bumper meets real concrete.

Considerations

  • Comfort, drainage, and accessibility all push slope decisions below the code maximum. The right slope is the one the design vehicle never notices.
