Access Aisle

An access aisle is the marked clear space beside an accessible parking or charging space that makes the space usable, room for ramps, lifts, and transfers. In a parking facility:

  • Van-accessible spaces require wider aisles; two spaces may share one aisle.
  • At EV chargers, the aisle is one of four tests: the space, the reach, the clear floor, and the interface.

Considerations

  • An aisle that is striped but blocked is a violation with a paint job. The aisle is the accessibility; the space just stores the car.
