Validation (Parking)

Validation is merchant- or employer-subsidized parking: the business stamps, codes, or digitally credits the parker’s fee to shift the cost to the party who benefits from the visit. In a parking facility:

THE MERCHANT PICKS UP THE TAB PARKING$18full rate VALIDATEDby shop PARKING$3you pay
Validation lets a merchant absorb part or all of a customer’s parking charge, turning a $18 ticket into a few dollars or nothing at the exit. It is a marketing subsidy dressed as parking: the shop pays to keep the visit friction-free, and the operator still books the revenue. Illustrative.
  • Digital validation ties the subsidy to transactions and data rather than paper stamps.

Considerations

  • Validation economics belong in the rate structure design, not bolted on. Validation moves the parking bill to whoever invited the car.
