EV Ready means conduit and wiring run to a junction box at each planned future charger location, a future charging space, deliberately not a usable one. In a parking facility:
- PCC recommends against installing receptacles at EV Ready stalls: NEC-required waterproof floor receptacles create tripping hazards, cannot serve accessible spaces, and open receptacles allow charging without the owner’s knowledge or the safety features of listed chargers.
Considerations
- EV Ready carries most of the infrastructure cost of a full installation; mandates written in Ready percentages are capital mandates. EV Ready is a designed future, not an amenity.
