A charging space is the parking space adjacent to a charger where a vehicle rests while charging. In a parking facility:
- Charging spaces are counted separately from chargers and ports in mandates and in utilization analysis.
- Whether non-charging vehicles may occupy charging spaces is a policy decision with enforcement consequences.
Considerations
- Jurisdictions that permit ICE vehicles in charging spaces can leave arriving EVs without a usable charger while the hardware sits paid for and idle. The space, the port, and the charger are three different assets; count them separately.
