Wheel Stops (see also Parking Blocks)

Wheel stops, commonly referred to as parking blocks or stoppers, serve as minor barriers in parking spaces, designed to halt vehicles from encroaching on pedestrian zones, walls, buildings, or adjacent vehicles. While they offer drivers a tangible signal that they’ve reached the boundary of their parking spot, aiding in the correct positioning of the vehicle, their use is discouraged. The primary concern is that wheel stops present a trip hazard, significantly increasing the risk of falls and related injuries within the parking area. This issue not only affects pedestrian safety but also raises liability concerns for property owners due to potential accidents. As such, alternative safety measures such as bollards are recommended to avoid the unintended dangers associated with wheel stops.

THE TIRE STOPS, THE BUMPER DOES NOT walkway / planting overhang wheel stop
A wheel stop halts the tire, but the bumper still reaches two to three feet past it. Place the stop for where the car ends, not where the tire lands, or the overhang eats the sidewalk. Illustrative.
