DC Fast Charging (DCFC)

DCFC delivers direct current at up to 400 kW, adding over 100 miles of range per hour, the charging class for dwell times that cannot wait. In a parking facility:

  • Installed cost runs $40,000 to $450,000 per port, dominated by infrastructure.
  • NREL’s national analysis puts DCFC at just 0.65% of all ports needed; the honest analysis for most parking destinations is little or none.

Considerations

  • Manufacturers currently advise limiting routine DCFC use to protect batteries, though chemistry changes may reverse this. DCFC belongs where the dwell is short and the need is real, not on the all-day floor.
