EVSE is the entire EV charging system serving a parking facility, from the transformer (where dedicated) through panels, circuits, and chargers to the connector that attaches to the vehicle. In a parking facility:
- Roughly half the installed cost of EVSE is the infrastructure behind the charger, not the charger itself.
- EVSE scope drives the electrical service load calculation for the building.
Considerations
- Confusing EVSE (the system) with EVCS (often used for the charger alone) causes scoping and code-compliance errors. EVSE is the system; the charger is one component of it.
