Automated Load Management System (ALMS)

ALMS, called an Energy Management System (EMS) in the NEC, is software and controls that share available electrical capacity across multiple EV chargers, throttling and scheduling sessions so total draw never exceeds the service. In a parking facility:

  • ALMS can reduce the required service load by roughly half versus ports-times-kW.
  • Advanced systems schedule charging into lower-cost time-of-use windows and around building load and on-site solar.

Considerations

  • ALMS capability at charger replacement can multiply what today’s service assumptions support, easing retrofits. ALMS is how a fixed service serves a growing charger count.
