PEV is the umbrella term for vehicles that charge from the grid: battery EVs (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). Conventional hybrids (HEV) do not plug in and create no charging demand. In a parking facility:
- Charging demand follows PEVs on the road, not EV headlines; sales reports frequently blur the categories.
- US PEV share of new sales ran 9.9% in 2024, 9.1% in 2025, and roughly 6% after tax credits ended.
Considerations
- PHEVs charge far slower and are about a fifth of PEVs, lowering average energy per session. Plan charging to the PEV parc, precisely defined.
