How to read a card. The large figure is the latest value BTS has published. The line shows its recent history, with the latest year marked. Each card names its National Transportation Statistics table, the year the data describes, and the date BTS released it, so a reader can always tell how fresh a number is.
Notes. Plug-ins per charging location divides cumulative plug-in sales since 2010 (NTS 1-19, not reduced for retirements) by public and private electric charging locations (NTS 1-6b); locations are sites, not individual ports. Commute shares come from the American Community Survey via NTS 1-41; the 2020 figure uses Census experimental estimates. Congestion delay is the average across 494 urban areas in NTS 1-69. Ownership cost is for a typical new car driven 15,000 miles a year, in current dollars.
